Mithaiwalla Agiary Celebrates Amardad Parabh

Mithaiwalla Agiary celebrated the auspicious Amardad Parabh on 19th December, 2025, with a Jashan performed by Panthaki Er. Zavahir Dastur, followed by Humbandagi conducted by Er. Darayesh R. Katrak. The observance concluded with an insightful religious discourse on Amardad, the last of Ahura Mazda’s Ameshaspands, who is entrusted with the guardianship of plant life and vegetation.

Amardad, derived from the Avestan word Ameretat, signifies immortality or eternal life. The concept was explained through the cyclical evolution of a tree, symbolising continuity and renewal. Historical references also indicate that ancient Iran once housed a temple dedicated to Amardad Ameshaspand. The discourse highlighted the revered Cypress tree in Abarkuh, Yazd Province, Iran, believed to be over 4,500 years old and regarded as a sacred symbol of Amardad. Considered holy and wish-fulfilling by local Zoroastrians, the tree is protected as a national monument and attracts visitors from across the world. Another ancient tree in the nearby Chem village, surrounded by local legend and devotion, continues to be venerated with the lighting of a divo, reflecting enduring respect for nature within Zoroastrian tradition.
