The annual grand celebration of the auspicious Ava Yazad Parabh (Avan Mah Avan Roj) was organized at the Bombay Presidency Radio Club, on 22nd March, 2026, by the Ava Yazad Organising Committee spearheaded by Kersi Limathwalla, under the auspices of the M J Wadia Fire Temple Trust. Themed ‘Continuity or Change – the Eternal Dilemma’, the occasion commenced with a Jashan led by Vada Dasturji Khurshed Dastur of Iranshah Udvada Atashbehram.
An engaging evening unfolded under the gracious emceeship of Zarine Commissariat, who welcomed Udwada Vada Dasturji Khurshed Dastur, Chief Guest Er. Dr. Ramiyar Karanjia, BPP Trustees, Er. Burjorji Antia, and the gathering. The programme commenced on a soulful note with a Monajat rendered by Havovi R. Karanjia.
Chairman Trustee Kersi Limathwalla opened the proceedings with a profound message on the interplay of change and continuity, urging the community to embrace positive evolution while discarding negativity. This was followed by a prayer led by Vada Dasturji Khurshed Dastur, invoking peace and strength for those affected by global turmoil. Reflecting on the sorrow of Mother Earth, he called for unity and harmony.
Chief Guest Er. Dr. Ramiyar Karanjia delivered an insightful address, using water as a metaphor for balancing change with constancy. While acknowledging that external aspects of religion may adapt with time, he firmly stressed that core tenets related to conversion, inter-caste marriages, dokhmenashini and fire-temple access to non-Parsis, must remain intact, underlining the importance of preserving foundational values and safeguarding the sanctity of traditions that have sustained the community for centuries. He also highlighted the need for constructive progress, including structured religious learning, regular prayer, a non-judgemental outlook and a strong focus on health and family-based religious practices. He encouraged learning from history and maintaining a positive, forward-looking approach, concluding that harmony between change and continuity is key to progress.
Advocate Zerick Dastur proposed the vote of thanks, reiterating the importance of honesty, charity and integrity. He urged parents to nurture a spiritual connection in children through daily prayer and emphasized the role of community institutions in supporting youth and fostering a cycle of growth and empowerment. The evening concluded with the Zoroastrian and National Anthems, followed by warm fellowship over dar-ni-pori, bringing the gathering to a meaningful close.
