On the auspicious occasion of Ava Mahino Parab (Ava Mahino, Ava Roj), 22nd March, 2026, which honours the birthday of guardian deity of waters – Ava Ardvisur Banu (Anahita), Parsis gather around in prayer across different sources of water, with offerings of coconuts, flowers, Dal Ni Poli, in gratitude. Thane’s Cowasji Patell Agiary celebrated the auspicious day at the Agiary’s holy well, lodged in the compound, with a steady stream of devotees since morning.
The Agiary no Kuo was beautifully decorated with flower garlands, chalk and rangoli. The celebratory Jashan commenced at 5:10 pm, performed by Er. Kersi Sidhwa and Er. Mehernosh Dastur, amidst a large number of humdins. The hour-long Jashan concluded with the priests and devotees walking to the holy well for prayers honoring Ava Ardvisur Banu, infusing the surroundings with a deep sense of serenity and spiritual upliftment.
A round of rich chasni and snacks was enjoyed by all at the portico of Patell Apartments. The common feeling about such community celebrations was well-voiced by a devotee: “It gives us the opportunity to pray together as a community and allows us to get closer with each other and share our thoughts on our daily lives and world affairs.”
The celebration reflected faith, unity and gratitude, as the community came together in devotion, strengthening spiritual bonds while honouring the timeless tradition of Ava Yazad nu Parab, with collective warmth and reverence.
