In a moment of pride for women’s cricket and the Parsi community, former India women’s cricket captain, Diana Edulji, was honoured on 9^th April, 2026, with a rare tribute at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium. Gate No. 5 has now been officially named the ‘Diana Edulji Gate’, marking a historic recognition of her outstanding contribution to the sport.

The honour was conferred by Maharashtra CM – Devendra Fadnavis along with Mumbai Cricket Association President – Ajinkya Naik, in the presence of distinguished members of the cricketing fraternity. This milestone makes Diana Edulji the first Parsi woman cricketer to have a stadium gate named after her, a testament to her enduring legacy.

A pioneering figure in Indian women’s cricket, Diana Edulji represented the country with distinction from 1976 to 1993, earning recognition for her disciplined left-arm spin and dependable right-handed batting. She has played 20 Test matches and 34 One Day Internationals, leading the Indian team as captain in four Women’s Tests, all of which ended in draws, and 18 Women’s ODIs, securing seven victories.

Her leadership during a formative phase of women’s cricket in India laid a strong foundation for the team’s future growth and competitiveness. She has also played a key role in elevating the profile of the sport at a time when opportunities for women cricketers were limited. Beyond her playing days, Diana Edulji has continued to contribute to the game as a respected administrator with the BCCI, advocating for greater recognition and support for women’s cricket.
