Living Worthy Of The Fire We Revere

Dear Readers,

This week, as we mark the most auspicious Adar Mahino, Adar Roj on 20th April, let’s take a moment to step back and reconnect with what it is about this holy fire that that truly guides us beyond the ritual and the routine. For us, fire is a living reminder of how to live our lives. When we stand before the Atash or a divo, offering sandalwood and prayers, we do more than observe tradition. The holy fire reinforces in us the values we often forget to practise – to give light without discrimination, to nurture clarity in thought and warmth in our interactions, and to rise upwards towards a higher version of our own selves.

To worship fire, therefore, is to live by its example. It’s in living out ‘Good Thoughts, Good Words and Good Deeds’ in our small, everyday moments. Choosing honesty when it’s easier to stay silent. Showing kindness when impatience creeps in. Standing firm in our values in the face of the world’s uncertainties. That is where true prayer lies.

This month also showers immense pride onto our community. The realisation of Dr. Homi Bhabha’s vision at Kalpakkam reminds us of the extraordinary legacy our community continues to contribute to the nation (Pg. 16). His foresight and brilliance reflect the very qualities Fire teaches us – illumination that cuts through darkness, purity that refines and a dynamic force that keeps moving forward.

Even as we celebrate, we cannot ignore the ongoing conflict, fear and uncertainty which seems to dominate the global landscape. As a community rooted in the principles of Asha, we pray that wisdom prevails over aggression and that humanity finds its way back to balance. Perhaps that is where our role becomes most meaningful – if each of us nurtures the flame within, with integrity as our anchor and compassion as our guiding light, we become bearers of radiance in a world eclipsed under the darkness of ignorance and greed.

Let this Adar Roj remind us that the flame we honour outside must also burn bright within.

Have a lovely weekend!
