Dear Readers,
For a community as small as ours, coming together means much more than a social or religious exercise, it’s essential to our identity, continuity and collective strength. Every gathering rooted in faith and tradition helps strengthen that sense of belonging keeping us closely connected across generations.
The recent celebration of the 200th Humbandagi at our holy Bhikha Behram Kua was one such moment, as generations gathered in prayer and fellowship. Particularly heartening was the sight of 14 young priests performing the Jashan ceremony, including two who had only very recently attained priesthood. Seeing our young mobeds step forward with such devotion, dignity and pride was deeply reassuring – it reminded us that the spiritual legacy of our faith still rests in capable and committed hands.
Similarly, the unveiling of the Bai Jerbai Baug Centenary logo ahead of its 2027 celebrations carries far greater meaning than a commemorative milestone. Baugs are living ecosystems of friendships, arguments, laughter, memories and lifelong support systems. A hundred years of shared life deserves celebration because it represents the endurance of community itself.
And perhaps, that’s why it hurts even more when we harshly turn against each other. Differences of opinion are inevitable in every family and every community. But how we handle those differences is what defines us. Recent events surrounding the distressing dog rescue issue have shocked and saddened many. If people begin fearing criticism or harassment for stepping forward to help others, whether human or animal, society risks silencing the very spirit of humanity. Compassion, dialogue and dignified resolution must always prevail over hostility and public vilification.
Communities don’t survive merely through institutions and rituals, but through the kindness, participation and willingness of its caring members. Let’s preserve that spirit with maturity and pride, because a community’s greatest legacy is neither wealth nor history, but the compassion and dignity with which its people stand by each other.
Have a good weekend!
