Beyond decorations, plants are living healers that breathe life, balance and positivity into our homes. In Vastu, plants are considered natural energy harmonisers, capable of cleansing negativity and enhancing prosperity. But not all plants are suitable indoors, and placement matters as much as the plant itself.
Here is a guide to Vastu-friendly plants, where to place them, and which ones to avoid.
Tulsi (Holy Basil): The most auspicious plant in Vastu, Tulsi is believed to purify energy and bring blessings. It enhances health, spiritual energy, and protection. It’s best placed in the East or North balcony, or near a sunny window.
Money Plant: A classic plant for prosperity, the money plant attracts wealth and growth. It symbolises and attracts abundance and financial stability. It should be placed in the North or South-East, preferably in water in a glass pot.
Bamboo Plant: Known for longevity and luck, bamboo brings harmony and prosperity. It promotes career growth and positive energy flow. Best placed in the North-East corner of the living room or study.
Peace Lily: A natural air purifier, this plant absorbs toxins and brings calming energy. It reduces stress and promotes peace. Ideal for bedrooms or study areas.
Jasmine and Rose: Fragrant flowers like jasmine and rose uplift vibrations and promote love and joy. These attract harmony and positive emotions. These should be placed in balconies, windows, or gardens in the East or North.
Plants to Avoid Indoors
Cactus and thorny plants should be avoided as these create conflict and aggression (roses are fine outdoors). Also, though Aloe Vera is medicinal, it belongs to the cactus family, so best kept outside. Bonsai plants symbolize stunted growth and restricted opportunities. On the other hand, large trees too close to the main door can block prosperity and energy inflow.
Tips for Healthy Plant Energy
Always keep plants well-watered and fresh. Dried or dying plants create negative vibrations. Place plants in clay or ceramic pots rather than plastic, to balance earth energy. And encourage children to care for a plant – it teaches responsibility and bonds them with nature.
Plants and Placements for Offices
Money Plant in the South-East attracts financial stability. Bamboo or Jade in reception areas promotes growth and welcoming energy. Fresh flowers on desks or meeting tables uplift morale and creativity.
Myths and Clarifications About Plants
Myth: Aloe Vera is always good indoors.
Truth: While excellent for skin and healing, Aloe Vera belongs to the cactus family and is better placed outside, not in living rooms or bedrooms.
Myth: Bonsai plants are lucky.
Truth: Bonsai symbolises stunted growth. Keep them outdoors if you like them as art, but not in study or wealth zones.
Myth: All thorny plants are negative.
Truth: Thorny plants like cactus can create conflict if kept indoors, but roses, when grown in gardens or balconies, bring beauty and harmony.
Myth: Artificial plants are easier to maintain and equally good.
Truth: Artificial plants do not carry life force (prana). They may look pretty but cannot cleanse energy like real plants.
Plants are nature’s easiest and most beautiful Vastu remedies. By choosing the right ones and placing them thoughtfully, you invite harmony, health and prosperity into your space. But remember, plants are living beings. They cannot speak, yet they feel. It’s important to note that growing a plant is a commitment – if you cannot commit to watering and caring for it, it is better not to bring it home. Plants should be kept only if you truly love nature and enjoy nurturing them. They will respond to your care with growth and positivity. If you love gardening and nature, they will bless your home with energy and abundance.
