Inspiring Insights At M J Wadia Agiary’s Jashan

The M J Wadia Agiary at Lalbaug witnessed a large gathering of devotees for its Dae Mahino Jashan. The solemn 10-Mobed Jashan was led by Vada Dasturji Keki Ravji Meherjirana of the Navsari Atash Behram. Following prayers and thanksgiving to Ahura Mazda, devotees assembled in the Agiary’s auditorium for a thought-provoking programme themed: ‘Connecting with the Divine’, ably compered by Roxane Desai.

Chairman Trustee Kersi Limathwalla opened the session by challenging the notion that one must “search” for God. He explained that humanity is already connected to the Divine, both materially and spiritually, but often loses awareness of this connection through ignorance and rigid thinking. He highlighted the importance of Asha, Vohu Manah, Sroash and Armaiti in helping individuals experience divine oneness.

Er. Dr. Ramiyar Karanjia, Course Director of the Structured Religious Course, now in its 19th year, spoke on the Zoroastrian understanding of God existing both within and beyond us. He outlined four pathways to spiritual alignment: prayer, love of God, service to humanity and intellectual understanding of the Divine.

Chief Guest Vada Dasturji Keki Ravji Meherjirana drew upon a lifetime of spiritual service and devotion, having performed 68 Nirangdins, over 5,000 Ijashnes and nearly 3,000 Vendidad ceremonies. He spoke movingly about the historic journey of the Iranshah from Iran to Udvada and the sacrifices made to preserve the sacred fire. Stressing that Agiaries and Atash Behrams remain powerful links to the Divine, he encouraged devotees to visit regularly, offer kathi or sukhad, and cultivate gratitude as a way of strengthening faith and community spirit.

Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Vispi Jokhi described the Divine as a Universal Self residing within each individual. He advocated meditation, scriptural reflection, gratitude and selfless service as pathways to inner calm and higher consciousness.

Advocate Zerick Dastur shared a heartfelt account of his Navar Martab days, recalling how the sacred environment of the Agiary fostered a deep and enduring bond with God. Encouraging especially the younger generation to embrace spirituality, he urged them to dedicate even a few minutes each day to prayer and reflection, stressing that sincere devotion can lead to meaningful and transformative experiences in life. Adv. Aazmeen Kasad echoed the importance of prayer, meditation and nurturing one’s relationship with God.

The evening concluded with dinner amidst renewed spiritual inspiration, reinforcing a timeless message: the path to the Divine begins with a conscious effort to cultivate faith, gratitude and goodness in everyday life.
