Dear Readers,
Beneath the surface of our vibrant and accomplished community lies a growing concern… while Parsis today are considered among the most educated, proficient and globally connected communities, many of our young adults tend to feel increasingly disconnected from community life, institutions and even each other.
That’s why initiatives like the Holiday Programme for Youth (HPY), FEZANA’s youth programmes, the World Zoroastrian Youth Leaders Forum (WZYLF), WZCC’s youth initiatives and the remarkable work being undertaken at the ASHA Centre are so important. They do far more than organise activities. They create friendships, nurture leadership, build confidence and, most importantly, help young Parsis discover where they belong within the larger community.
Last week’s coverage of the WZYLF at the ASHA Centre was a heartening reminder of what becomes possible when young Zarathushtis from across the world are given an opportunity to learn, share ideas and build lasting bonds. Similarly, HPY has, for nearly four decades, played a vital role in shaping generations of young Parsis, while FEZANA and WZCC continue to create platforms for leadership, entrepreneurship and global networking.
Yet institutions alone cannot carry this responsibility. Imagine the impact if more successful Parsi professionals, entrepreneurs, educators, artists and community leaders consciously invested a few hours each month mentoring our young adults. A conversation over coffee… guidance on career choices… sharing lessons learned from success and failure… such seemingly small acts could transform lives.
Our community has endured and prospered because each generation accepted a sacred responsibility: to guide, nurture and uplift the one that followed. The schools, Agiaries, Baugs, charities and institutions we proudly inherit today are the legacy of visionaries who looked beyond themselves and invested in the future.
If we want our community to remain vibrant, relevant and united, we must do more than preserve our heritage. We must actively shape its future by mentoring, guiding and inspiring our young adults. We must invest in our youth because they are not merely the custodians of tomorrow, they are its architects.
After all, the finest and most enduring legacy we can leave behind is not measured in bricks and mortar, but in the lives we help transform and the generations we empower to soar higher than we ever did.
