Our Diaspora – Our Greatest Strength

Dear Readers,

Often, one pauses to marvel at the extraordinary footprint of a community that constitutes barely a minuscule fraction of the world’s population. This week’s edition offers several such moments. From Kenya to Australia, from London to Karachi, Parsis continue to leave behind institutions, ideas and legacies that enrich the societies they call home.

Tiny in number, we remain global in impact. We integrate, contribute and build. Geography could never divide us, values have kept us united. Consider the inspiring examples… In Kenya, the late Pheroze Nowrojee devoted his life to defending democracy, constitutionalism and human rights, earning such respect that Nairobi has now immortalised him with a road bearing his name… In Australia, Noshir Irani has been honoured with the Medal of the Order of Australia for decades of selfless community service, reminding us that true success is measured by lives touched rather than titles earned…

In the United Kingdom, the Zoroastrian Trust Funds of Europe is proudly preserving and the migration stories of our people at Headstone Manor & Museum, in London, while acclaimed homeopathic physician, academician and researcher Dr. Farokh J. Master was recently awarded the prestigious Scroll of Honour by the House of Lords… Across the border in Karachi, Dinsha Daruvala’s architectural legacy was honoured by a leading institution by naming a studio after him.

These achievements span law, medicine, architecture, education, philanthropy and public service. Different professions, different nations, yet the same unmistakable Parsi values of integrity, excellence, compassion and responsibility shine through.

Perhaps that is our community’s greatest strength. Our identity was never the reserve of geography; it was about our core values – our grit, goodness and giving. The world over, we carry this inheritance of enterprise, honesty and service to society. As we take pride in these achievements, it is also our responsibility to ensure that the younger generation knows of these exemplary stories, because every inspiring life becomes a beacon that lights the path for countless others to follow.

Have a wonderful weekend!
