Age proved no barrier for 77-year-old badminton ace, Darayus Surti of Vadodara, who delivered another outstanding performance by winning three Gold Medals at the Ceylon Masters International Badminton Tournament, held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from 25^th to 28^th June, 2026. The prestigious championship attracted around 600 players from 15 countries.

Surti clinched Gold in the Men’s Doubles 75+ category, the Men’s Doubles 150+ Combined Age category, and the Mixed Doubles 150+ Combined Age category, adding yet another remarkable chapter to his distinguished sporting career.

His journey in badminton is a testament to perseverance. Surti began playing competitively at the age of 29 and despite suffering a crushing defeat in his very first tournament against the reigning State champion, he trained relentlessly and returned a year later to defeat the very same opponent, setting the stage for decades of competitive success.

Over the years, he has proudly represented India at the Senior World Badminton Championships in Malaysia (2004), Turkey (2007 and 2013), Spain (2009), Sweden (2015) and India (2017). He has also won Gold Medals at the Ceylon Masters International Badminton Championships for three consecutive years, in 2024, 2025 and 2026.

A renowned badminton coach from Gujarat, Surti has earned numerous national and international accolades throughout his career. Speaking to Parsi Times, he shared, “I think age is just a number. If you have the inclination, you can achieve your aim. Also, if you take care of your body, your body will take care of you!” Kudos to Darayus Surti’s remarkable achievements which prove that passion, discipline and determination have no age limit.
