The iconic 110-year-old Parsi Dairy Farm has come under regulatory scrutiny after Maharashtra’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suspended its Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence on 15^th July, 2026, citing multiple serious violations of food safety and hygiene norms. The dairy is prohibited from manufacturing, storing, selling or distributing food products, during this period, with any breach attracting legal consequences.

The action forms part of the FDA’s ongoing ‘Safe Food, Safe Maharashtra’ campaign, spearheaded by recently appointed Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe. Conducted on 14^th and 15^th July, 2026, the intensive statewide drive saw 24 raids across Maharashtra targeting dairy establishments, hotels, restaurants and food manufacturers. On 16^th July, the FDA extended its inspection to Parsi Dairy Farm Pvt Ltd’s production unit in Palghar, collecting samples of various product for laboratory analysis.

As per reports, during the inspection at Parsi Dairy Farm’s Marine Lines facility, Food Safety Officers reported several lapses, including inadequate sanitation infrastructure, absence of an Effluent Treatment Plant and dairy products without mandatory expiry date labels. These deficiencies posed a serious risk of microbiological contamination, stated FDA.

The statewide operation has resulted in the seizure of adulterated food and banned products worth nearly Rs. 1.9 crore, besides 11 FIRs, 16 arrests and the launch of an AI-powered public grievance portal. The crackdown has also led to action against several well-known food establishments across Mumbai, including K Rustom Ice-cream Parlour, Noor Mohammadi Hotel, Shalimar and Rehmania restaurants.
