Dear Readers,
When families speak of inheritance, our minds often turn to property, jewellery, investments or cherished heirlooms carefully passed from one generation to the next. Yet, the greatest inheritance we can ever pass on cannot be valued in rupees, recorded in legal documents or divided among heirs. It is our values.
Look through these pages today as well in recent issues, and you will find inspiring Parsis making their mark across different fields… Dr. Mahzarin Banaji has earned one of America’s highest honours for distinguished immigrants, while Darayus Surti continues to win international badminton gold at 77 and Yashaan Khambatta prepares to represent India once again at the Asian Games. Javid Canteenwala was awarded an OBE, Dinsha Daruvala’s architectural legacy was honoured in Karachi, Pheroze Nowrojee’s legal contributions recognised in Nairobi, Noshir Irani awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia, and Dr. Farokh J. Master was honoured by the House of Lords. Different journeys, different countries, yet all reflecting the same enduring values that have shaped our community for generations.
Their achievements span academia, law, sport, medicine, public service and more. Yet, they all stand upon the same enduring foundation: education, discipline, integrity, perseverance and a deep commitment to giving back. These are the values our community has quietly nurtured for centuries. These are the real family heirlooms that appreciate with every generation.
As this weekend also marks the Independence Day of the United States (4th July), we extend warm greetings to our readers and families across North America… a timely reminder that while nations are built on freedom, they thrive on values. Our global Parsi community continues to exemplify this by contributing meaningfully to their adopted homelands while remaining firmly rooted in our heritage.
Back home, the monsoons have descended in all their glory! Yes, it’s brought traffic snarls, power cuts and delayed trains, but after weeks of water shortage concerns, the rains are nature’s reassurance that difficult seasons do eventually pass.
Perhaps this is the perfect time to reflect on what we are truly leaving behind. Long after homes change hands and fortunes fade, values continue to shape families, communities and nations. They remain the richest inheritance we can pass down, carrying forward the ideals that have defined the Parsi community for generations.
