Dear Readers,
The Parsi community has lost one of its brightest sporting stars in the untimely passing of Khurshid Mistry. An exceptional athlete who brought pride to India and to our community, her vibrant and indomitable spirit touched far more lives than her innumerable victories could ever count.
While Khurshid’s medals will remain a source of pride, its the story behind them which makes her legacy extraordinary. Unable to pursue sport seriously in her youth, she began training in her mid-forties, refusing to let age dictate what lay ahead. With determination and discipline, she became a champion, proving that ambition has no expiry date.
Her life leaves us with a question: Do we recognise the champions among us before the world applauds them? We are quick to celebrate medals and accomplishments, forgetting that every achievement begins much earlier, often with an uncertain first step. Behind it could be someone trying to overcome self-doubt, juggling responsibilities or pursuing a passion that others consider impractical. A little encouragement at that stage can mean way more than applause at the finish line.
Our community has talent across generations – from children discovering their passions to adults rediscovering long-held dreams and seniors embracing new pursuits. They deserve our encouragement during the journey, rather than admiration only after success. Equally important is expressing our appreciation while we still can – showing up for each other, celebrating even the lesser milestones, extending a helping hand if possible.
We mourn Khurshid but with immense pride in our hearts. Though her journey ended far too soon, her legacy can live on in every dream we encourage and every ambition we help fulfil.
Somewhere among us is another champion, perhaps still unsure of that first step… a child waiting to discover their potential, or an adult who believes their moment has passed. May we recognise that spark and give them the confidence to begin and the support to persevere. For there could be no finer tribute to Khurshid than to help another champion find their wings.
Have a good weekend!
