Fair Play By BPP Chairman Yazdi Desai

Bombay Parsi Punchayet Chairman, Yazdi Desai, has recused himself from participating in any of the Board’s decisions as regards the process of the forthcoming BPP Elections in July 2018, in keeping with the fact that his wife, Anahita Desai will also be contesting in the same. He has also mentioned a preference for court-appointed observers to supervise the elections.
The statement put out by the BPP Chairman to his co-Trustees and others, reads, “I would like to put on record that since my wife Anahita Desai is standing for the forthcoming Elections, in the spirit of good governance and fair play, I will recuse myself from discussions and decisions regarding the procedure and logistics of the forthcoming Elections.
I also want to record that I am very much for approaching the High Court for Appointing Observers/ Commissioners for the Elections as was done in the last Elections of 2016.
Also it needs to be recorded that at the 2015 Elections when Trustee Viraf Mehta was contesting, his father Dinshaw Mehta who was the Chairman at that time did not recuse himself from the Election procedure and in fact was misusing his authority and position.”
