Davar’s Gambhar In A’bad

The second Gambhar honoring Prof. Firoz and Sunamai Davar, organized and financed by their daughter and current APP Trustee, Prof. Armaity Davar, was held on 5th February, 2017, by The Ahmedabad Parsi Panchayat (APP) at the Lalkaka Hall, Parsi Sanatorium Grounds. Attended by over five hundred humdins, a delicious menu of ravo, akuri, papdi papeto and masala-na-dar-chawal was catered by Nozer Daruwala of Surat. Acknowledging the contribution of the Davar family in the field of academics, the gambhar also included the annual felicitation for achievement in education, sports and extracurricular activities. Chief Guest for the function, Vada Dasturji Khurshed Dastoor gave away the prizes and also performed the jasan ceremony along with Er. Vazaan Dastur and Er. Arzad Khambatta.

Anchored by APP Gen. Sec. Er. Aspy Unwalla, the function commenced with a monajat sung by children of ZAGA (Zarthosti Awareness Group of Ahmedabad) followed by a short speech by APP President, Brg. Jahangir Anklesaria who lauded the achievements of the prize winners and assured that the APP would always be encouraging to performers in the coming years. Around thirty-five prizes were awarded in fields ranging from mental arithmetic, skating, literature, commerce, along with two doctorates and one M.Phil. The coveted Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Naju Rustom Dalal for her lifelong and selfless community service. The two Ervads, Vazaan and Arzad were also honoured by Vada Dasturji for their service towards the community at such a young age. Hutoxi Contractor (nee Randeria) was honoured for her extensive and tireless service towards community institutions. Dasturji Khurshed Dastoor using his deep religious knowledge, urged the youngsters to excel in whatever field they take up by using the example of a consecrated fire of an Adarian which is created out of different household fires. Jt. Gen. Sec. of APP Firoze Davar then gave a vote of thanks. The evening also included five different entertaining and informative items by the ZAGA kids, followed by a ‘retro dance’ finale and our Parsi anthem ‘Chhaiye Ame Zarthosti’ and our National Anthem.
