The Senior Citizens of Dadar, Wadala And Matunga (SCDWM) hosted a gala evening full of song, dance and laughter at the Lady Jehangir Hall of J B Vachha High School on 21st April, 2018. Conceptualised by President Tehmtan Davar; Vice President Armaity Tirandaz; Jt. Hon. Secretaries, Najoo Padshah and Armaity Mistry and Hon. Treasurer Percis Dubash, the function included a delightful comedy, ‘Pannu Toh Konne Pannu’ staged by Meher Sinor, Collin Chinoy, Jasmin Siganporia and Veera Dhabbar, followed by dance performances on Sridevi and Shammi Kapoor choreographed by Burzin Engineer, along with a lively garba performance by the ladies of Matunga Garba Group.
The highlight of the evening was the felicitation of young ex-student of JB Vachha High School, Deane De Menezes and her NGO, ‘Red Is The New Green’ which has been chosen for the ‘Queen’s Young Leader Award’ to be awarded by Queen Elizabeth II at a special ceremony to be held in Buckingham Palace in June, later this year. Granddaughter of Co-Founder of this group, Walter De Menezes, Deanne’s initiatives focus on creating awareness about hygienic menstrual practices, providing access to affordable sanitary pads, installations of pad vending machines and safe disposal of menstrual waste. Deane plans to take her initiative to hospitals, academic institutions, corporations and self-help groups to spread awareness to all sections of society, regardless of age, gender, income and other factors.
The entertainment quotient resumed with Hutoxi Tavadia playing popular Bollywood and Western instrumental tunes on the keyboard. The event concluded with Shernaaz Talati delivering the vote of thanks, followed by the National Anthem and delicious snacks.
