Constructed by Maharaja Bhawani Singh of Jhalawar (Rajasthan) in 1921, situated near the Garh Palace, the Parsi Opera Theatre at Bhawani Natyashala, is being restored by the Rajasthan Archaeology and Museum Department, at an estimated budget of Rupees five crores.
The repair and restoration of the Parsi Opera Theatre commenced in September 2018 and will continue till 2021, when it will mark a hundred years of its existence. According to a report in Hindustan Times, Mahendra Kumar Nimhal, the in-charge of the Archaeology and Museum Department of Jhalawar, claimed that around 45% of the work at the Bhawani Natyashala had been completed including plaster, flooring work, light fitting, window repair, etc; adding that work on the lounge, stage, and roof were being currently carried out; and that chairs for permanent seating and stone benches within the campus would be fixed next, with separate toilet facilities for tourists.
Till 1950, classic plays including Rana Pratap, Bhul Bhulaiyya, Mahabharat, Raja Harish Chandra and Abhigyan Shakuntalam were staged at Bhawani Natyashala.
