Cusrow Baug Premier League Holds Exciting Fourth Edition

The fourth edition of the Cusrow Baug Premier League, which was held in November 2022, by the CBUSWL, commenced with the new practice where 4 team owners participated in an auction for Football, Volleyball and Throwball players for their four teams, namely ‘Giants’ (owner: Arzoo Dehmiri); ‘Warriors’ (Hoshang Yazdegardi); ‘Raiders’ (Zubin Wadia) and ‘Chargers’ (Phiroze Colabawala).

Partnering with Sony Sports Network for event promotion, the CBPL kicked off with a Volleyball tournament comprising over 50 participants representing the four teams – Warriors, Chargers, Giants and Raiders. Team Giants were declared Champions of Volleyball in CBPL 2022. The Football tourney displayed spirited sportsmanship, with Raiders swooping in on the win. Team Chargers displayed great woman-power, winning Throwball.

The Playoffs of CBPL 2022 kicked off on 25th November, 2022, commencing with a 1-minute silence honouring Mani Vajifdar, an integral part of the CBUSWL, who had passed away earlier in the day. The Chief Guest for the Football event was Cusrow Baug resident – Neville Bastawalla -SVP & Head – Marketing and On Air Promotions; Sony Sports Network.

Jamshed Daboo conducted the Prize distribution, where Zubin Wadia and the Raiders (Pashan Irani, Cyrus Karbhari, Bizan Kolha, Farzaad Dastoor, Farhad Aibara, Yazad Gandhi, Meherasp Mistry and Shahram Mavandadnejad) were presented the Champions Trophy along with the prize money of Rs. 40,000/-. Kaiwan Buhariwalla (Giants) was awarded ‘Best Player – Football’, with Vaspan Bharucha and Piroze Katrak named its ‘Promising Players’. The Giants were awarded the Most Spirited Team of the Football Tournament.

The Volleyball trophy was scooped by Team Giants (Shazman Shroff, Hoshaang Gotla, Rustom Irani, Rustom Dehmiri, Anosh Munshi, Sheroy Kolah, Piroze Katrak, Vaspaan Bharucha and Vispi Shroff) with the prize money of Rs. 5,000/-.

 

The Throwball winner was Team Chargers (Freya Arsiwala, Freya Jaorewalla, Zara Dhanboora, Farzana Besania, Katrina Besania, Kyzeen Shroff, Iyanah Daruwalla, Farize Pavri and Delnaz Sinor), receiving Rs. 5,000/- as prize money. Iyanah Daruwalla won the ‘Upcoming Player’ award and Farize Pavri received the ‘Most Consistent Player’ award. Delnaz Sinor was awarded ‘Player of the Tournament’.

Team Chargers were Runners Up in Football (Cash award: Rs. 15,000/-) and Volleyball (Cash award: Rs. 2,500/-), while Team Raiders were Runners-Up in Throwball (Cash award: Rs. 2,500/-).

CBPL started off in 2015 as an event organised by The Cusrow Baug United Sports and Welfare League.
