Iranian Zoroastrians Celebrate Kadmi New Year -1384 YZ

The Iranian Zoroastrians of Mumbai welcomed the Iranian Kadmi New Year on 18th July, 2016. The Kadmi New Year is an auspicious day of remembrance and reverence for the departed, and the day is spent in prayers and religious ceremonies for the dear departed. Mumbai’s Iranian Zoroastrians visit the Tower of Silence on this day and offer fruits, flowers and favourite eatable items of the departed at the Doongerwadi, and fondly remember the memories of their beloved family members. It is said that in the times of Caliph Omer, a tragic event occurred and Iranian Zoroastrians were subject to severe oppression and tyranny. Many laid down their lives to protect their religion and refused to convert to Islam. The slaughter that ensued has never been forgotten. The brave souls of the martyred Zoroastrian Iranis are remembered with deep gratitude on the Kadmi New Year.

The Sazeman-E-Jawanan-E-Zarthosty-Irani-E-Mumbai express gratitude to the BPP for permitting and facilitating the Iranian community in performing prayers and giving offerings at the Tower of Silence.
