Dr. Persis Mevawala was recently felicitated by Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) for her selfless, dedicated services during the pandemic. As the in-charge lady medical officer at Kadiwala and Bunki Maternity Home, run by SMC, Dr. Persis was awarded the certificate of honor by the Mayor of Surat, Hemaliben Boghawala, in the presence of SMC Commissioner – BN Pani, dignitaries of Surat and South Gujarat from various fields and other invitees.
She commands an unblemished career of nearly four decades, where she worked as a lady medical officer in charge of Asarawala Hospital; and Kadiwlala and Bunki maternity home, both run by SMC. In view of her sincere services, SMC offered her an extension post-retirement as an exception. She has participated in innumerable national camps and programs for Polio, beti bachao, breast and cancer screening. She has performed many critical surgeries successfully during her career, based on which she was selected by SMC to perform surgeries in outreach campus and different health centers on many occasions. She worked selflessly, round the clock, in 1994 during plague as also in 2006, during the floods.
Dr. Persis attained her MBBS education in Jamshedpur and topped her post-graduation in gynecology from Government Medical College, Surat. After retirement, Dr. Persis is keen on continuing to serve society, along with her husband Dr. Homi and younger son, Dr. Cyrus.
