Hoshmand Elavia, a resident of Godrej Baug, Mumbai, made the community proud by winning the Overall Title in the Pro Junior Category of the IndiKarting Pro Races. The 15-year-old dominated to finish the four rounds with a total of 98 points ahead of Shobit Narsana (86 Points) and Krish Gupta (80 Points). His consistent form at the top saw him bag a brilliant 10 podiums in total.
Hoshmand proved he was the racer to beat with his impressive performance right from the beginning of the season. In the first event, the St. Mary’s (ICSE) student won the first race of the first round, by a narrow margin. Race 2, being the reverse grid race (results of the first race are reversed for the starting order of Race 2), Hoshmand started from the end, consistently picking his way back up the order, to finish a well-deserved third. Race 3 saw Hoshmand in fine form, as he held off multiple overtaking attempts to yet again win and lead the overall standings.
In the second event, Hoshmand flaunted his prowess – dominating the field to win all 3 races that weekend. He celebrated the dominant win with a typical ‘Shoey’ celebration (Australian celebration where one drinks straight out of their shoe!) in front of a crowd of laughing competitors and disgusted onlookers!!
The third IndiKarting event was tougher for Hoshmand. He won the opening race ahead but was unable to make it on the podium in the reverse grid, race 2. However, Hoshmand managed to get back on the podium for race 3, finishing third behind Narsana and Gupta.
Hoshmand entered the fourth event with a significant advantage, thanks to his consistent podiums in the earlier races. He however had a shaky start after a poor qualifying saw him start at the back of the grid for Race 1. Hoshmand was not prepared to finish at the back and despite practically no overtaking opportunities, he managed to overtake and finish fourth in Race 1. This was only the second time that he finished off the podium. He fought hard to overtake and win Race 2. The final race saw Hoshmand finish a commendable third, to top the season with a total of 98 points (ahead of Narsana at 86 and Gupta at 80 points).
“I am thrilled to win this title. All the hard work over many months has paid off. I want to thank my sponsors Nitesh Udyog Engineering Solutions, Panchshil Reality and the foundations that have supported me. I also want to thank the entire crew of IndiKarting and of course, my parents, who have been my biggest supporters since I started karting at 8 years of age,” shared Hoshmand, after celebrating another Shoey!
IndiKarting saw entries from around India and there were other Parsis who also made a mark during the season. Zephaan Ardeshir had one victory and a double runner up finish in the Pro Cadet, while Kaizer Badhniwalla had a victory in the Pro Senior, the third and fourth events, respectively.
“It has been a good first season, post Covid, with an increase in entries. Hoshmand’s title is well deserved as he has put in a lot of effort. He definitely has a bright future!” exclaimed Rayomand Banajee, 8 Time National Champion in Karting and Formula Racing, and the Founder of IndiKarting.
The Pro Senior Category overall title was won by Ojas Surve ahead of Aditya Patnaik and Ishaan Barde. The next IndiKarting season is likely to start in December, this year.
