‘Udwada Bakers’ Launched By Chef Shezad Marolia

For the past seven years now, Hilla and Shezad Marolia have been running ‘Cafe Farohar’, in Udwada, hugely successful for its fare of authentic Parsi cuisine. On 7th April, 2023, Chef Shezad Marolia of Cafe Farohar launched his newest venture – ‘Udwada Bakers’ (at Daulat House, Iranshah Rd.) to continue the legacy of Irani Bakery.

Parsi / Irani bakeries boast a rich 100-year-plus legacy of the old-world charm of these bakery products, known to all, and savoured not only by our community but are in much demand across India and the globe!

The grand opening was inaugurated by the district collector of Valsad, Smt. Shipra Agre and Vada Dasturji Khurshed Dastoor, alongside their families in attendance. A large number of the local Parsi brethren and well-wishers came to congratulate and check out the spanking new bakery, which was also much appreciated by bloggers and other social media influences. All invitees were treated to a grand buffet feast at Cafe Farohar, which is housed in Sodawaterwalla Dharamshala.

Speaking with Parsi Times, Chef Shezad said, “We are delighted to welcome you all to our newly opened bakery, where every day is a celebration of fresh-baked goodness! From the warm aroma of our oven-fresh bread to the sweet and flaky layers of our khari, we’re passionate about bringing you the very best in artisanal baking. Our team of skilled bakers takes pride in using only the finest ingredients and time-honored techniques to create a wide range of mouth-watering treats that are sure to delight your senses!”

The main bakery of ‘Udwada Bakers’ is located at the same spot where the earlier Irani Bakery was – just below Bawa Inn. There’s an outlet located, just opposite the holy Iranshah Atashbehram for those in a rush.

“We still bake manually with no use of machines, kneading kilos of dough in the old-fashioned way, and we use a wood fired oven – to ensure that there is not even the slightest compromise on the original taste. Bun maska, Brun maska and mawa cakes are back and how! We have retained all the classics ranging from Khari, Sugar Khari, Makhanias/ Batasas, Nankhatai, Raisin Rusk Toast, Kaju, Almond and Walnut Macrooms,” adds the proud owner, Shezad.

So, the next time you head to our holy Udvada, don’t miss out on the whiff of freshly baked goodness and treat yourself to a little slice of heaven at Udwada Bakers!
