The Poona Zarthosti Seva Mandal’s (PZSM) children’s classes titled, ‘Zappy Zoroastrians’, celebrated its 4th anniversary on 1st September, 2023. A gala eve was organised at the beautifully decorated Sir J J Agyari Hall in Pune, bringing together past and present Zappy Zoroastrians, parents and volunteers. It was graced by PZSM’s President – Rukhsshana Anklesaria, VP – Mini Grant and Committee member Tehmas Bharucha.

The teachers welcomed all the guests at the entrance with teelis. The fun eve comprised children playing various games and writing what they loved most about Zappy Zoroastrians, and also celebrating the birthday of one of the tots who had turned 9 and who lit 9 small divas instead of blowing candles, symbolising the respect for fire .

Established in 2019, at the PZSM premises on Pune’s M G Road, Zappy Zoroatrians had to pause its in-person activities during the lockdown, but launched an online platform accessible to Zoroastrian children from all across India and the world to participate. Though normal classes have now resumed, the online format continues to keep the worldwide connectivity intact.

The three dedicated teachers – Dilmeher Bhola, Shiraz Desai and Hutoxi Sethna have successfully blended religious teachings and Parsi traditions, culture and history alongside field trips, fun and games, creating an enjoyable learning experience. Their popularity has birthed plans for a new ‘Teen Plus’ group for skill development.
