Mumbai Police Tracks Suspect Giving Threat Call About Ratan Tata

Last week, the Mumbai Police tracked down an anonymous caller who issued a threatening call for Ratan Tata, warning him of the same fate as Cyrus Mistry. The call was traced to an MBA holder who, it was revealed during investigation, was suffering from schizophrenia, as per an ANI news report.

The caller asked the police to enhance Ratan Tata’s security, failing which he warned that the industry doyen would meet the same fate as former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry, as per a senior official. After receiving the call, Mumbai Police issued full alert, and a special team was assigned to cater to Tata’s personal security, while another team collected information about the caller, who was tracked down via a telecom service provider, in Karnataka, though he was a Pune resident.

When the police reached his Pune residence, they were informed that the caller had been missing for the last five days and his wife had even filed a complaint at the Bhosari police station in Pune city. On further questioning his kin, it was learnt he held an MBA degree (Finance), also studied engineering, and suffered from schizophrenia. He had taken the phone with him and made the call from someone’s house without informing them. He called Mumbai Police Control Room threatening the safety of Ratan Tata. In keeping with his mental illness, the police have not pursued any legal action against him.
