As the cases of breast cancer are on the rise, it is imperative for women to get themselves checked up regularly as early detection can be treated effectively. In order to convenience the breast-cancer check-up for our community’s women, last year WAPIZ initiated Free Breast Cancer Detection Camps in our colonies and baugs.

On 23rd February, 2020, WAPIZ held its fifth Free Breast Cancer Detection Camp with medical support from N K Dhabhar Cancer Foundation at the C J Colony Recreation Centre, Tardeo. Women from the Colony and surrounding areas showed up for their check-ups earlier than the stipulated time of 9:30 am, to partake of the screening conducted by N K Dhabhar Cancer Foundation which provided its medical services completely free. Conducted by professional technicians and doctors, the procedure was painless, taking a mere 10 minutes per individual.

While many faces showed signs of relief, those detected with any abnormality were advised to go for a free mammography by simply paying a registration fee of only Rs.100/- at a diagnostic centre in Parel, thanks again, to the kindness and largesse of the N K Dhabhar Cancer Foundation.

Present at the camp were WAPIZ CEO – Anahita Desai; WAPIZ Trustee – Meher Panthaki; N K Dhabhar Cancer Foundation Trustee – Dr. Khurshid Mistry and her team. Dr. Khurshid Mistry shared a short talk on Cancer Awareness. It was heartening to see a good number of young women showing up for the camp.

WAPIZ will continue organizing many more of the Free Cancer Detection Camps for community members, across different Baugs and colonies. “We feel blessed to have collected the required funds to hold such beneficial and potentially life-saving camps, thanks to our generous donors – Dinamai Antia Charitable Trust, Er. Burjor Antia and Darius Khambata – who have recognized the need for such camps,” said Anahita Desai. WAPIZ is also grateful to Homi (Tiger) Bhagwager for his support and to Karyesh and Sherry Patel for conceiving the noble venture as well as organizing the funds for the entire project.
