ZWAS Holds Sports Day

The dynamic ladies of ZWAS (Zoroastrian Women’s Assembly of Surat) organized an exciting Sports Day on 24th December, 2023, which drew active participation from the community, displaying much talent as well as sportsmanship. Held at the Sir. J J School grounds, the event was graced by eminent community personality – Chief Guest – Jimmy Kharadi. ZWAS President – Mahazarin Variava gave a warm welcome to all. In his address, Jimmy Kharadi stressed on the importance of sports in the life of students, insisting that parents encourage their children to excel in sports like wrestling and martial arts. ZWAS Secretary – Daisy Patel conducted the event alongside torch-bearers Ariana Parabia, Kayan Katpitia, Myra Parabia and Anoash Chichgar.

The Sports Day comprised over twenty-five exciting sporting events (and winners) including Bunny rabbit race (Farzan Bhathena), Chocolate race (Yazaan Variava), Back to School race (Nelviz Vaid), Swachch Bharat Race (Kayaan Ankleshwar), Duck walk Race (Yazad Waghchipwala), Lemon n spoon race (Kiaan Coachman), Banana Relay race (Farzin Waghchipwala), Book balancing race (Pinaz Pithawala and Pakshan Patrawala), 3-legged race (Riyan & Aryamaher), Skipping race (Jennifer Dehnugara), Wheel barrow race (Shehnaz & Yasmin; Anoash & Farzan), Water filling race (Monaz Pithawala; Khushroo Gole) and a host of 100m (Vahishta Vesuna; Kaizad Pithawala), 200m (Minoish Engineer; Barjis Bharda) and 400 m (Yasmin Patrawala; Anoash Chichgar) races. Freddi Patel was the Chess champ, while the Volley-ball tournament was won by the team of Farzan Dhabliwala, Kaizad Marfatia, Zenobia Patel, Zahaan Dhabliwala, Pirzan Variava and Ruzbeh Ruwala.

Sports masters – Viraf Varachawala and Jamasp Patrawala provided expert guidance, mentoring and supervision, alongside referees Avinash, Bharat and Nitin, while Hutoxi Tamboli, supervisor of the Parsi Girls Orphanage provided the props. Visitors enjoyed tasty snacks at various eatery stalls by community members and Zarir (Panchayat Kitchen) provided a sumptuous lunch. Kudos to ZWAS for always keeping the community engaged in excellent activities which promote camaraderie, sportsmanship and talent!
