Homavazir’s 11th CBDA Scouts held a fun and informative summer camp at Bordi, from 27th April – 1st May, 2024. 21 excited scouts and scouters travelled by train to Bordi, in their smart uniforms, shacking at J N Petit Sanatorium. After unfurling the Bharat Scouts & Guides flag and giving general instructions, the scouts settled in to begin camp chores by modelling signalling towers and pioneering camp gadgets.
Each day began with exercises and jogging on the beach, followed by flag hoisting, uniform, and room inspection, inculcating the importance of cleanliness and orderliness. Morning activities included thrilling stunts like climbing rope ladders and pyramid competitions making the boys fearless and tough. Afternoons were devoted to training in first aid, rescue techniques, stretcher drills, and learning knots and mapping. Various quiz competitions were held, and prizes distributed to winners. Evening baseball games were fiercely competitive but played in a spirit of camaraderie.
Night games played in pitch darkness instilled boldness in young minds. Every night, the boys gathered in the prayer area for Kashti and Sarosh Baaj prayers followed by a devotional monajat ‘Jaya Zarthost’ in praise of Prophet Zarathustra, thanking Ahura Mazda for a safe and enjoyable day.
Activities like the Fancy Dress competition and scout version of dumb charades were greatly enjoyed by the boys. An enjoyable evening was spent at GoolKhush Resort poolside. The campfire on the final night was the icing on the cake. Bonding together, the boys performed skits, mono acting, sang and danced to popular songs till the embers faded. The boys returned home having learnt valuable life skills, making new friends and memories to last a lifetime.
Thanks is extended to the trustees of N M Petit Charity Fund for generously allowing the free usage of the Sanatorium as also to the Sanatorium Manager – Mehroo Shroff and her daughter Peenaz for their hospitality and meals provided through the stay. Thus ended the summer camp, instilling in the participants a sense of discipline, courage, humility, kindness and camaraderie to make them better citizens of the future.
New batches commence on 1st June, 2024. Boys who love outdoor activities and are interested in joining Homavazir’s 11th CBDA Scout Group can connect with Scout Masters on Sundays, between 8:30 am and 10:30 am, at J B Vachha Wadia High School, in Dadar. For details, call: 9821559132.
