Hanshi Percy Bahmani Passes Away

Percy Farhad Bahmani, known for bringing much pride onto the community and the nation with his prowess and accomplishments in the field of Martial Arts, passed away on 2nd October, 2024, in Mumbai. Born on 4th November, 1953, Hanshi Percy Bahmani was the only Indian who received worldwide recognition in Karate, Judo and Full Contact Martial Arts.

In 2017, he became the first Parsi to be awarded the International Referee Licence Grade C by the Kudo International Federation (Japan), holding the distinction of being one of only two Indians to be awarded the Kudo International Federation’s Referee Licence (the other being Soshihan Mehul Vora). This licence was awarded to him by Bollywood’s leading superstar – Shihan Akshay Kumar, at the 8th Kudo International Federation India National Tournament, held in Khandala.

In 2018, 8th Dan Karate degree holder Percy Bahmani was awarded a brown belt in Seibukan Jujutsu, setting the record as the first Indian to achieve this honour. A few years ago, at the age of 66, Percy also attended the ‘4th Kudo World Championship’ in Nagoya (Japan), leading a 15-member Indian contingent and officiating the tournament. Post this, he started training in ‘Ninjutsu Bujinkan’ and ‘Battojutsu’ (forms of Ninja Art) under Kancho Julio Toribio, at the Seibukan Jujutsu World Headquarters.

Discipline, passionate and committed to his calling, Percy Bahmani started training in Martial Arts in 1973 and by 1978, he was an expert teacher. He trained in several styles of Okinawa and Japanese Gojuryu Karatedo, Kudo and Kobudo. His favoured Martial Arts were MMA, Kudo and Jujitsu. He held the ranks of 8th degree black belt Hanshi in Gojuryu Karate and 4th degree black belt in Kudo. In addition to his various awards and felicitations in Martial Arts, Percy Bahmani was also a proficient and well-known personality at the annual Zoroastrian Powerlifting Championships.
