Iranian Zoroastrian Anjuman Holds Elections 2024

By Special Reporter Razvin Namdarian

The Iranian Zoroastrian Anjuman held elections on 29th September, 2024, to appoint Committee Members for the Mumbai Constituency, for the next five years. Held at the Sir Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy Parsee Benevolent Institute, (Fort), about 126 members from the Irani Zoroastrian community cast their vote, electing 5 out of the 6 candidates who had stood for elections. The elections were supervised and conducted in a professional and unbiased manner, by the able team from the BPP comprising Mahayar Jijina, Deputy Chief Accountant, who acted as Returning Officer, alongside Mehernosh Guzder and Yazad Mehta.

Decorum was maintained and the final votes were counted in the presence of all candidates in a transparent manner. As per the final tally of votes, the committee members appointed from the Mumbai constituency of the Iranian Zoroastrian Anjuman include: Gaiv D. Irani, Hemavand B. Namdarian, Khodadad P. Irani, Sarosh R. Irani and Vafadar K Irani.

Incidentally, the Anjuman is the founder member of the Federation of Parsi Zoroastrian Anjuman of India. While the voter’s list enumerated a total of 1,169 voters at the time of the election, this number is unfortunately not updated, as regulations require that if any registered member has passed away, their name cannot be struck off without a death certificate being submitted by the next of kin. As not many follow this due process, it is difficult to arrive at a precise and updated record of members of the Mumbai constituency of the Iranian Anjuman.

Here’s wishing the newly elected Committee Members of the Iranian Anjuman a successful term in office, as they get together to work for the welfare of the community.
