Dear Readers,

On 6th November, 2024, Donald Trump was elected as the 47th President of the United States, marking his second, non-consecutive return to the White House, after a 4-year hiatus, to resume his position as the person heading the world’s most powerful office.

As is the case in all democratic elections, there’s a whole lot of both – elated and disgruntled voters. More than all else, this win – which marks the political comeback of a world leader who has faced two impeachments alongside an ever-growing slew of criminal cases – indicates clearly the people’s disappointment and resentment with the earlier regime of the Democrats.

The real question is: Was this Trump’s Triumph or the Democrat’s Defeat? Trump seems to have tapped into the growing angst amongst people fed up of liberal condescension and the imposition of woke ideologies. He imbibed fundamental changes by shifting the Republican Party’s focus towards what he deemed, “common sense”, which focusses on border security, economic growth, traditional values, and peace through strength. While a majority of Americans are celebrating just this, there’s others grappling with disillusionment and uncertainty, bracing for another round of potential divisiveness in the Trump administration.

The simple truth remains, in a democracy, the elected leader or political party, indicates the choice of the masses. How the masses make their choices is another discussion altogether. This holds true at every level in all elections – national, state or community. The more educated masses learn from their mistakes, the rest are doomed to repeat history.

Here’s hoping Trump will deliver on his words of resurrecting America’s golden age, as he takes to office with the promise of bringing peace to a world steeped in war and crisis, more than ever. Of course, only time will tell if USA’s Triumphed or Trumped! But this much remains – the people have spoken. And that’s just that.
