The monsoons can bring along a barrage of uncomfortable health problems. These include warts and different skin conditions. However, with a little care, you can keep your skin healthy and keep those warts at bay.

What are Warts?

Warts are raised bumps on your skin caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). These small growths with a rough texture can appear anywhere on the skin. Warts can resemble a small cauliflower or a solid blister. The appearance of a wart differs based on its location on the body and the thickness of the skin.

How do warts spread during the monsoons?

The monsoon season is conducive to the spread of HPV as this virus breeds in warm, moist places. Different HPV strains cause different types of warts. Warts are contagious – close skin contact with a person having warts or with their personal items can infect you and cause warts. Warts enter the body mainly through skin breakage and can also spread from one part of the body to another, via scratching or biting a wart; sucking fingers; biting fingernails, if there are warts around the skin or nails; shaving the face or legs; or with damaged or wet skin coming in contact with rough surfaces – increasing the risk of infection.

The virus can be present in the body even after the wart is removed. If warts recur post treatment, it is an indication of a weak immune system.

HOMEOPATHY TREATMENT FOR WARTS:

Under the conventional mode of treatment, suppression or removal is usually adopted for removing warts. This may cause pain and scarring. Homeopathy treatment follows a corrective approach to treat warts naturally rather than suppress them, while boosting the immune system to fight HPV without causing any side-effects.

A few highly recommended homeopathic medicines for warts include:

Causticum 30C: 5 pills, twice a day till warts fall off (for Cauliflower-Warts that bleed).

Dulcamara 30C: 5 pills, twice a day till warts fall off (for Infectious Warts).

Thuja occidentalis: Mother Tincture, 2 drops applied to skin twice a day, till warts fall off.

(Disclaimer: The above are recommendations are suggestive. Medicines should only be taken in consultation with a doctor.)

Precautions That Help Prevent Warts:

  1. Avoid touching someone else’s wart.
  2. Do not share towels, washcloths, nail clippers and other personal items.
  3. Keep skin clean and dry
  4. Wash your hands and feet often.

Importantly, do not leave warts untreated; they may increase in size and number. Some skin cancers such as squamous cell carcinoma may look like warts, and hence it is important to get a diagnosis if there is any doubt. Consult a homeopath for customized treatment and get rid of warts without any side-effects.
