Renovated Seth S J Sodawaterwala Dharmashala Reopens At Udvada

The Udvada Samast Anjuman is pleased to offer the services of the newly renovated ‘Sodawaterwala Dharamshala’ at Jhanda Chowk, Udvada, to our dear community members, under the new management of Hilla Marolia of ‘Farohar Caterers’.

With the benevolence of Scylla Vatcha and the trustees of ‘Maneckbai Jeejeebhoy Deed of Settlement Fund’, the Dharamshala is now equipped with six air-conditioned rooms and a new central gas water heating system, with newly fitted washrooms.

As trustees of ‘Udvada Samast Anjuman’, we would like our community members to take advantage of this spanking new facility at very affordable rates. Kindly share your suggestions and feedback in the Suggestion Book placed at the Dharamshala.

For bookings, call Hilla Marolia at 09512164542 or 09512165941 or 02602345688

It would be very helpful to have some useful information such as rates per person for different category rooms, are the rooms fitted with fine nets, whether the rooms are with boarding facilities or otherwise and check in and check out times. This would especially facilitate guests coming from out of India to make arrangements before coming due to economy of time.

I am Very saddened with the experience THE NEW MANAGEMENT WAS EXTREMELY RUDE AND HAD NO MANNERS HOW TO TALK TO A CUSTOMER. (especially when they are in the hospitality business).
when a friend of mine asked the management LADY “is the fish fresh” she shouted and said
“have you never been to a restaurant before”.
I was a bit embarrass as i always use to patronize the food at the DHARAMSHALA as it was good service and friendly atmosphere.
but definitely not this time .
The second occasion was for breakfast when we decided to sit and eat at the DHARAMSHALA
lets be honest, most of the food was good … but when I tasted the POHA it was not edible, so i request the management to take it back ,they did and replaced it with a new one. it was again not edible so i wanted to speak to the lady who was in charge of the management .
she spoke like this
“IF YOU WANT TO EAT YOU EAT A OR LEAVE IT ASIDE ,THIS IS THE SECOND TIME YOU HAVE ORDERED THE POHA !”
I CALMLY SAID ITS NOT EDIBLE SHE SHOUTED AND SAID I HAVE A 20 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN COOKING.
EVERYTHING WAS OKAY BUT WHEN SHE SHOUTED THAT
“I HAVE NOT CALLED YOU HERE TO EAT YOU HAVE COME HERE TO EAT”
THIS STATEMENT OF HER WAS NOT RIGHT I WALKED AWAY WITHOUT SAYING A WORD IN THE MIDST OF MY MEAL MY FRIENDS TOOK OVER AND PAID 2000/- WITHOUT THE BILL AND WALKED OF
IS THIS RIGHT ATTITUDE OF THE MANAGEMENT ?
IS THIS THE TREATMENT A CUSTOMER GETS ? AND I AM FROM UDWADA
I WOULD REALLY LIKE IF ATTENTION IS PAID TO THIS MATTER AND HAVE PLEASANT MANAGEMENT WHO CAN RUN THE DHARAMSHALA LIKE IN THE PAST.
I WOULD DEFINITELY NOT VISIT THE DHARAMSHALA AND NOT RECOMMEND ANYBODY TO DO SO IF YOU ARE TREATED LIKE UNWANTED GUEST AND LISTEN TO THE BARKING OF THE MANAGEMENT.

I totally agree with the above comments of Mr Andhyarujina.
From my recent experience as well, the mother and son duo are totally unprofessional, uncouth, rude and unpleasant people.
The manner in which they talk can spoil a perfectly normal day, and put our parsi ethics and values to shame. Food was pathetic and terrible service as well. They should be taught how to talk to customers and run a business with kindness and politeness .
Will avoid this place completely till new management takes over.

Rather distressed reading the views expressed in the last two emails as previously I have read glowing reports about the food as well as the courtesy and kindness shown by the mother son duo. Are we referring to the same people I wonder ! Never visited this Dharamshal either for stay or meals but was thinking of doing so , now am in two minds.

Surprising to see the comments mentioned above.
Do the Trustees of the Udvada Samast Anjuman even care to follow up or offer comments on the ground reality.
I might be a prejudiced traveller but in Udvada, right out from Globe Hotel or Ashisvangh or the numerous Dharamshalas I have visited and stayed in, not a single place has professional management.
All places are run by a cottery of staff who eye your tipping ability rather than making your travel comfortable.
The owners are available only to receive the money, not complaints or even heed to suggestions.
Rooms will run empty if the Managers deem so, since the revenue for them is in the food service.
This is the pitiable state, since Parsi Zoroastrians from places from Mumbai, Surat, Navsari and even further prefer to come, pay their respects to Iranshah and leave all in a days time.

Even though after reading the negative comments, we still decided to stay at Sodawaterwala Dharamshala. In fact, we enjoyed Hilla’s gracious and warm welcome. She has been a very accommodating host. Never had any reason to complain about her. Hilla also did a fantastic job at feeding us delicious parsi dishes.
