Twenty-year-old Jehan Daboo was recently invited as a speaker at TEDx NUJS in Kolkata. An international badminton player in the deaf category and having represented India six times, Jehan has twelve national level medals and a bronze medal in Mens Singles at the World Deaf Youth Badminton Championship held in 2015 to his credit. A Bachelor of Arts student from Bombay’s Jai Hind College, Jehan’s topic, ‘The Pursuit of Normal’ gave insights into his life and the obstacles he faced while growing up, to a packed audience comprising law students, teachers, speakers and others. Having addressed various gatherings before, Jehan sought help from mentor – Life Coach and Facilitator, Naushad Buchia to prepare for his TEDx speech. Speaking to Parsi Times, Jehan said “I have been fortunate to have a great support system that helps me in all my endeavours and makes me a better person. I am eternally grateful to those who have enabled me to overcome and excel, not just with respect to this talk, but in all aspects of my life.”
