India’s leading eye specialist, esteemed globally for his path-breaking research and for constantly setting new standards and breakthroughs worldwide in eye care, Dr. Cyres Mehta was felicitated with the prestigious ‘International Medal Lecture Award 2018’ by the renowned Società Oftalmologica Italiana (SOI). Dr. Cyres was conferred the award by President SOI, Prof. Matteo Piovella and Vice President SOI, Prof. Nardi, at their landmark 150th Anniversary meeting in Rome on (date).

Adding yet another national honor for our country and community, this award makes Dr. Cyres the very first Indian to be bestowed with this honour. Dr. Cyres’ talk on ‘Complicated Situations In Cataract Surgery’ was heard enthusiastically by 1,500 eye surgeons from around Europe and was translated into Italian. It was extremely well accepted by all. Professor Piovella, the President of the Society, introduced Dr. Cyres as “the star of Indian Ophthalmology” and expressed delight at Dr. Cyres consenting to personally receive the award in Rome. The SOI is an Italian Ophthalmological Society which is the premier Eye Surgeries Society in Europe.

Over the years, the dynamic and dashing Dr. Cyres Mehta has been winning national and global accolades, standing out as one of the tallest feathers in our Community’s cap. He has consistently done our community and nation proud with his efforts, scientific breakthroughs and innumerable recognitions and awards.
