Kudos Vahbiz Bharucha – Mtra’s Rugby Team Player

Pune-based Vahbiz Boman Bharucha, the only Parsi Zoroastrian who plays Rugby at the State and National level, was part of Team Maharashtra, which recently won the bronze medal in the Senior Women’s National Rugby Sevens Championship, held at Balewadi Stadium (Mahalunge, Pune) on 3rd and 4th July, 2024. Of the twenty-four participating teams, Maharashtra secured third place, beating West Bengal 32-7. Orissa bagged the gold and Bihar won the silver.

Vahbiz is an independent practising Physiotherapist. Her vision is to help Maharashtra win the gold medal at the Nationals and take the Indian Women’s Rugby Sevens team to the top five in Asia. India currently ranks at ten.

Extremely passionate about Rugby, Vahbiz believes the sport has been instrumental in teaching her how to handle pressure and to never quit – always rise back on your feet, no matter how many times your fall!
