180th Jashan and Humbandagi on Ava Roj
22nd September, 2024 (Roj Ava; Mah Ardibehesht) saw community members gather at the sacred Bikha Behram Well for a momentous occasion – to commemorate the 180th Jashan and Humbandagi, celebrating 15 years of this cherished tradition at the holy Kua. Over these years, the monthly occasion, which began as a humble prayer gathering, has become a platform fostering community unity and spiritual reflection.
The Jashan ceremony was conducted by eight young, dedicated priests, many being college-going students, namely: Er. Kaivan Katrak, Er. Varzavand Dadachanji, Er. Hormaz Fatakia, Er. Cyrus Dastoor, Er. Maazyaar Sinor, Er. Aryan Kanga, Er. Rukhshad Panthaki and Er. Nauzer Tarachand. Their participation symbolized the vibrant future of the priestly tradition within the community with their youthful presence and sincere devotion.
The community’s leading and revered personality, Noshir Dadrawala, known for his encyclopaedic knowledge about Zoroastrian religion and culture, delivered an inspiring talk, captivating the audience. He emphasized the importance of coming together for collective prayer and the need to support young priests, ensuring the continuation of these sacred practices for future generations. He also shared profound insights on the elemental significance of fire and water in Zoroastrian rituals, enriching the audience’s understanding of their heritage and religious duties.
The atmosphere was filled with joy and togetherness, as attendees left with warm memories and traditional treats of Malido and Bhakra. Even as the 180th Humbandagi concluded amidst much positivity and camaraderie, it is amply clear that this long-standing tradition continues to strengthen bonds within the community, reminding all of the importance of unity, prayer, and preserving the customs that define our faith.
