Dadysett Atash Behram Celebrates Salgreh

30th September, 2024, marked the salgreh celebrations of the historic Dadysett Atash Behram, the first Kadeem Atash Behram of Bombay, built in 1771 CE, by the visionary Dadibhai Noshirwanji Dadysett (1734-1799). The Dadysett Atash Behram truly came alive with a large congregation gathered for the special Jashan ceremony, which was followed by a traditional Gahambar.

The sacred fire, consecrated on September 29, 1783 (Roj Govad, Mah Aspandad, 1153 AY), continues to burn brightly at its home on Dadiseth Agiary Lane (Fanaswadi, Kalbadevi).

While the then 5,000-strong Parsi population in Mumbai had not yet risen to great heights of fame, Dadysett was one of the pioneers of Parsi glory, as owner of 6 ships, with an expansive business as broker of commercial vehicles imported from Europe. His other thriving businesses included owning a ginning press and the manufacture of screws. He was also a great philanthropist, regarded highly by the British.

It was indeed heart-warming to witness community members unite to honour our rich heritage and keep alive the flame of faith.
