Lions Club (Byculla) Holds Blood Donation Drive

Lions Club of Byculla carried out a day-long Blood Donation Drive at CST Railway Station, on 15th October, 2024, which resulted in collecting a total of 103 bottles of blood. District (3231A1) Governor, Lion Viraf Mistry inaugurated the blood camp alongside Guest of Honor – Lion Feroze Katrak and Lion Percy Master.

Lion Percy Master, sponsor of this yearly event, welcomed the gathering and explained the eligibility aspect of blood donation – that donors should be 16 years and above, in good health, with a good haemoglobin count and weight over 45 kgs. He shared how each pint could save three lives, that even platelets could be collected, and while red blood cells could be stored for 42 days, platelets could be stored for 5 days. He said that the Lions Club of Byculla carries out blood donation camps throughout the year as India was undergoing 50% blood shortage.

He thanked Dr. Gare from Nair Hospital and Siddharth College students for persuading the passengers alighting from trains, to donate blood. Every blood donor was given a certificate and nourishing snacks. The drive saw much enthusiasm amongst the crowd and delegates to collect as much blood as possible all through the day.
