Dr. Shahriyour Andaz Conferred Prestigious Mary Pearson Award

Dr. Shahriyour Andaz, MD, Director of Thoracic Oncology at Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital (Oceanside, New York), who has led the hospital’s effort to combat lung cancer, was conferred the prestigious Mary Pearson Award, in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the hospital and the community. The event was held on 9th November, 2024, at The Lannin in Eisenhower Park, at its 2024 Soirée Under the Stars annual fundraising gala, celebrating excellence and dedication in healthcare.

The Mary Pearson Award, named in honor of the hospital’s founding administrator, is presented annually to an individual for extraordinary effort and individual contributions that significantly advance the hospital’s commitment to the community. For 20 years, Dr. Shahriyour Andaz has led the hospital’s efforts in the prevention, early detection, and treatment of lung cancer. He is known for his pioneering work as the first surgeon on Long Island to perform robotic-assisted bi-lobectomy and surgical removal of the thymus gland, cementing his legacy as a leader in thoracic oncology.

Attributing this honour to the culmination of years of dedication to his patients and community, Dr. Andaz shared, “This honor is a reflection of the collaborative efforts of the entire team at Mount Sinai South Nassau… Together, we are making a difference.”

Praising Dr. Andaz’s commitment and dedication, Dr. Adhi Sharma, President of Mount Sinai South Nassau, said, “Dr. Andaz is the epitome of a compassionate, expert, skilled physician. His tireless dedication has not only saved lives but inspired countless staff members and patients alike.”

The recipient of multiple Brooklyn and Long Island Chapter of the American College of Surgeons’ prestigious Murray Friedman Resident Competition (clinical research) Award, Dr. Andaz is also a past recipient of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer Outstanding Performance Award.
