The Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT Mumbai), under its flagship initiative, the Mumbai Biocluster, awarded its prestigious, second ‘Dr. K. Anji Reddy Memorial Fellowship for Affordable Biopharmaceuticals’ to Dr. Cyrus S. Poonawalla, Chairman, Serum Institute of India Pvt. Ltd. (largest vaccine manufacturer in the world), in recognition of his exceptional contributions to biopharmaceutical innovation, leadership and commitment to addressing global healthcare challenges.

The award was presented during a special ceremony at Hotel Ritz Carlton, Pune, on 21^st January, 2025, in the presence of Chief Guest Dr. R. A. Mashelkar, distinguished scientist and Padma Vibhushan awardee. The ceremony was jointly hosted by the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai and the Ministry of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra, represented by Professor Anniruddha B. Pandit, Vice Chancellor and Shri Chandrakant (Dada) Patil, Minister of Higher and Technical Education.

This Fellowship, which honours industry leaders for their extraordinary contributions to the advancement of the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries, has been established by ICT Mumbai, in memory of the late Dr. K Anji Reddy, founder of Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, a visionary in Indian pharmaceuticals.

This award adds yet another proud feather to Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla’s highly accomplished cap, further consolidating Parsi pride worldwide. Amongst various other national and global awards, he has also been felicitated by the Government of India with two of the nation’s highest civilian honours – the Padma Shri for his contributions to the field of medicine, in 2005; and the Padma Bhushan, for his contribution in production of vaccines during COVID-19, in the field of Trade and Industry, in 2022.
