The Bandra Parsee Association (BPA) celebrated its 75th Anniversary (Platinum Jubilee), with great pomp on the eve of 15th February, 2025, at the Tata Blocks, Bandra. Chief Guest Justice Sharukh Kathawalla presided over the occasion alongside eminent guests including Cdre Aspi Marker, Diana Marfatia, Capt. and Mrs. Percy Master and Adi Banaji. Community luminaries were felicitated at the event.
Cdre Marker arranged for the impressive Indian Naval Band, who regaled the audience with a mix of popular Bollywood and Western music. The lively evening saw a spirited dance by Shahrukh Doctor and Farida Meher. A fun round of Housie followed, ending with a delicious dinner catered by ‘apri’ Tanaz Godiwalla.
Founded in 1949 by passionate Parsis, the BPA’s reach encompasses the western suburbs. Founding members – Gulu Masani and Nusserwanji Khariwalla aimed to unite Parsis of Bandra and other suburbs for community upliftment and welfare. In addition to providing financial, medical, and educational aid to underprivileged community members, BPA also supports mobeds and chasniwallas of Tata and Panthaki Agiaries in Bandra. Its efforts are sustained through generous donations and corpus fund investments.
Speaking at the event, Chief Guest, Justice Kathawalla lauded the good work being done by the BPA, “Such organisations are very important and much needed. They help in uniting not only the locals but the entire community.” When asked what role the youth can play going forward, he said, “There are many welfare activities catering to the youth. We need to imbibe in them the desire to pay it forward right from the beginning. When they gain from trusts and other such organisations, even if they cannot return that to those organisations (due to some protocols), they need to be told that you also help in turn, only then the community will progress.”
The dedicated team of BPA’s Committee Members is helmed by President – Sam Choksey, Jt. Hon. Secretaries – Maharukh Mistry and Pervin Tarapore, Jt. Hon. Treasurers – Phiroze Tarapore and Yasmin Charna, and Committee Members – Bomy Dabhoiwala, Dinaz Choksey, Dr. Zenobia Bhatena, Kashmira Kapadia, Mehli Bomanbehram, Rohinton Elavia and Armin Bhatena.
