Nationally and globally, our tiny community stands as a beacon of rich heritage, unwavering values, transformative impacts across various fields and its significant, lasting contributions to society. Even as we grapple with dwindling numbers, an aging population and a rapidly changing socio-economic landscape, we need to urgently address the critical issue of the lack of active participation of Parsi youth in community affairs.
For our community to thrive, it is essential that our youth engage in decision-making, cultural preservation and leadership roles. A key reason for declining youth participation is the perception that community matters are dominated by older generations – many young Parsis feel disconnected from traditional structures, viewing them as outdated or resistant to change. To bridge this gap, community leaders should take the lead to create platforms that encourage open dialogue, where young voices are not just heard, but valued. Only by fostering inclusivity and adaptability, will we enable an environment where the youth can feel a sense of belonging and purpose, as community members.
Many of our young adults, growing up in today’s fast-paced, globalized world, pursue careers abroad, leading to physical and emotional detachment from community affairs. To counter this, organizations must leverage more digital platforms, social media, and virtual forums to keep young Parsis engaged, immaterial of their geographical locations.
Moreover, youth participation should be beyond cultural, religious and sports events. They must be given meaningful roles in decision-making bodies and trust funds, as also increased involvement in community service projects, entrepreneurship, and environmental sustainability, which can help align Parsi interests with broader, worldwide development goals. By mentoring and empowering young leaders, the community gains fresh perspectives in governance and development and ensures its perpetuity.
Youth involvement is not just a necessity, it’s an investment for the future. We need to create a dynamic, inclusive space which will encourage our youth to contribute, lead and carry forward our proud legacy.
Have a good weekend!
