78-year-old, Mani Mulla recently bagged the ‘Dignity Dance Icon 2018’ title at the ‘Dignity Icon’ competition held at Ravindra Natya Mandir, Mumbai on 14th August, 2018. Orchestrated to celebrate the singing and dancing talent among the senior citizens of Mumbai, the competition witnessed over three hundred and fifty participants, with only twenty-four contestants reaching the finals.
Mani performed Bharatnatyam to Lata Mangeshkar’s Marathi bhajan, ‘Ganaraj Rangin Nachto’ under the guidance of Shruti Kumar, granddaughter and disciple of Guru Kalyanasundaram of Rajarajeshwari Bharata Natya Kala Mandir, and was adjudged the ‘Dancing Dignity Icon 2018’.
Speaking to Parsi Times, Mani said, “To me, this award is a reward for my devotion and determination to my art. Having had knee replacement surgery’s done on both legs in 2010 and 2015, I feel proud to have dedicated my life to art. I have participated in various competitions in the past, and I look forward to performing in the future as well.”
