Sanjan Day was celebrated with much pomp and enthusiasm on 14th November, 2024, as Zarthostis from across India came together at the Sanjan Memorial Column Grounds, to commemoration the auspicious community occasion, reinforcing the full spirit of Parsipanu. Students and staff of the Jadi Rana High School graciously welcomed the visitors with hot tea and light snacks sponsored by Dotivala bakery, Surat.
As is tradition, two Jashans were performed – one in the prayer hall by the team of Mobeds from Nargol and Saronda, and the other main one at 10:00 am, performed by the Udvada priests, with Vada Dasturji Khurshed Dastoor of Iranshah Atash Behram leading the Jashan, accompanied by Sanjan Agiary’s Er. Rayomand Dastoor. The Jashan, attended by Bapsy Daviervala and the committee members of the Sanjan Memorial Column alongside the visiting Zarthostis, ended with a Humbandagi.
Everyone then settled into their seats in the decorated pandal especially set up for the occasion. Vada Dasturji Khurshed shared a heartfelt tribute to our community’s recently deceased pride and Kohinoor – the late Ratan Tata as also to other departed stalwarts. He shared his concerns on the decreasing foot falls at our Atash Behrams and Agiaries and urged seniors to impart knowledge and pride about the community’s rich culture and heritage with their grandchildren and encourage them to make it a habit to visit Agiaries. Two other dignitaries who addressed the gathering included Commodore Aspi Marker and Darayes Katrak, who shared inspiring personal experiences and encouraged all to work towards serving and saving our diminishing community.
Paricheher Daviervala welcomed the crowd on behalf of Bapsy Daviervala, thanking the Western Railways for their support in in halting trains at Sanjan on this day, especially in keeping with the non-commutable, under-construction Mumbai-A’bad Highway, which proved a huge challenge for senior pilgrims who travel to Sanjan every year by bus. She expressed gratitude to the all the visitors and the priests who performed the Jashan. The function concluded amidst much camaraderie and joy, with the renditions of ‘Chahiye Hume Zarthosti’ and the national anthem, followed by lunch catered by Navsari’s Soonu Kasad.
