The 40th Jal Pardiwala All Parsees Athletic Meet, held on 8th & 9th February, 2025, at Mumbai’s University Stadium, witnessed participation from over 500 Zoroastrians from across India, setting 4 new Meet records. This year only J N Petit School, Pune participated from outside Mumbai. The meet was presided by Chief Guest, BPP Chairman Viraf Mehta and Guest of Honour – global racing champ, Jehan Daruwala.
The prestigious Late Air Marshal Minoo Merwan Engineer Trophy for Life Time Contribution in the field of Parsee Sports was awarded to the dynamic Vice President and Cricket Secretary of Parsee Gymkhana – Khodadad Yazdegardi, while veteran sportsperson Khursheed Mistry was awarded Best Athlete of the Year Trophy for her outstanding achievements in sports. Bai Avabai Petit School continued to dominate in Girls and Women’s events, winning the Ardeshir D. Taraporevala Team Championship Cup for Women. Mancherji Edalji Joshi Memorial Trust won the Late Framroze Maneckji Mistry Team Champioship Cup for Men.
Since Mithoo Jesia was unable to attend due to health issues, Vice Presidents – Rusi Bhumgara and Mahiyar Dastoor conducted the Prize distribution. Nazneen Govadia and Mahiyar Dastoor were the announcers of the Meet. Rusi Bhumgara introduced the Chief Guest and commenced the award ceremony, felicitating Khodadad Yazdegardi with the most prestigious Lifetime Achievement Trophy. The four new Meet Records were set by BPP’s Nayomi Sirvala in Javelin Throw (Girls U/16) with 25.32 meters; and MJEMT’s Taronish Irani clocking the 3000m Men’s Run in 10:22.7 secs; and Rayomand Irani setting two new records in the 3000m Men’s Walk in 19:37.3 secs and the 1500m Veteran’s Men’s Walk, clocking 9:36.2 secs.
Other awardees include, in the Individual Championships Category: Humaira Rana (Girls/U-6); Arzaan Daver (Boys/U-6); Tian Khambata (Boys/U-8); Sean Dilawarnijad (Boys/U-10); Urvaksh P. Engineer (Boys/U-12); Pashaan Irani (Boys/U-18), ‘Fastest Boy Athlete’ & ‘Best Athlete Performance’ of the Meet; Zasha Patrawala (Girls/U-14) and ‘Fastest Girl Athlete’; Zenia Amalsadiwala (Girls/U-16); Zerxes Daruvala (Boys/U-16); Dinaz Patel (Women’s Ind.); Rustum Desai (Men’s Ind.); Fareez A. Vasania and Rayomand Irani (Group Champion – Men’s Veteran); Rustum Desai (Javelin Throw); and Zoroastrian Colony Youth Welfare Association (Tug-of-War – Men and Women).
Ruzbeh Sutaria gave the vote of thanks, extending gratitude to the personalities for gracing the function, as also Diana Marfatia, sponsors and donors of the meet, participants, the community’s top caterer – Tanaz Godiwalla for providing lunch gratis and to the senior officials and staff of University Stadium director and all volunteers for their help in making the Meet a resounding success.
