England Wins ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 : Anya Shrubsole’s 6-46 in 9.4 overs ensured England’s victory by 9 runs beating India in the finals of the Women’s World Cup at Lords. Batting first England notched up 228-7 in 50 overs, courtesy good knocks from Natalie Sciver (51) and Sarah Taylor (45). Amongst the Indian bowlers, Jhulan Goswami grabbed 3-23 in 10 overs while Poonam Yadav picked up 2 wickets. In reply, India started off well but saw themselves struggling and managed 200-6 in 44.4 overs. Punam Raut top scored with 86 and was well supported by Harmanpreet Kaur with 51. India seemed to have lost a winning game. The player of the match was to Anya Shrubsole.

 

TENNIS

Vardhan Wins 2nd Challenger Title : Vishnu Vardhan won his second challenger title of the season with Japanese partner Toshihide Matsui. Vardhan and Matsui pipped Russia’s Evgeny Karlovskiy and Evgeny Tyurnev 7-6(3) 6-7(5) 10-7 in the final of the President’s Cup in Kazakhstan.

HS Prannoy Clinches US Open Grand Prix Gold: Indian shutter HS Prannoy beat Commonwealth Games champion Parupali Kashyap 21-15, 20-22, 21-12 in an All-Indian final to clinch the USD 120,000 US Open Grand Prix Gold.

 

COMMONWEALTH YOUTH GAMES

Lone Indian boxer, Sachin Siwach, won the gold medal defeating Welsh boxer James Nathan Probert for 4-1 in the 49 kg flyweight category at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Bahamas.
