H’bad-based Activist Omim Debara Passes Away

Hyderabad’s eminent social activist and President of the Confederate of Voluntary Organisations (COVA), Omim Maneckshaw Debara, passed away on the morning of 24th August, 2023, at the age of 77, due to cardiac failure.

Having served as a key functionary of the Zoroastrian Parsi Anjuman of Secunderabad and Hyderabad for many years, Debara was an engineer by training, and retired as Chief Engineer of VST. As an activist, he worked dedicatedly and passionately took up for several causes including the environment, communal and interfaith harmony, riot prevention, heritage, and the preservation of water bodies. His activism ranged from working in slums and communities, to policy transformations through government and PILs in courts for the redressal of social problems.

He also served as Secretary of ‘Forum for Better Hyderabad’, alongside being actively associated with INTACH, Rotary, Hum Sub Hindustani Trust, and the Interfaith Forum, among others. May his soul rest in peace!
