New Zealand Parsis Observe Muktad

Keeping the flame of Zoroastrianism burning bright is an ongoing endeavor of the Zoroastrian community in Auckland, New Zealand, especially during the holy days of Muktad. The Hama Anjuman Muktad prayers conducted during the five days of the revered Gathas (Avestan hymns)  from 10th to 14th August, at the Foroud Shalori Dar-be-Mehr in Auckland, provided an opportunity for the community to offer their respect to their departed loved ones.

The Afringan, Farokshi, Satum and Baaj prayers were recited across all days of the Gathas from 8:30am to 1:00pm, by a roster of dedicated Mobeds at the Dar-be-Mehr, creating a divine and uplifting atmosphere, enhanced by offerings of flowers, food and oil lamps. The Behryu Jashan was performed in the evening on the final day of the Gathas, the Vahishtoisht Gatha, concluding this spiritual period of prayers, remembrance and reverence.

The New Zealand Zoroastrian community appreciates and extends gratitude to the committed Mobeds – Er. Khushroo Master, Er. Bakhtiyar Engineer, Er. Furzan Rao, Er. Behzad Karkaria and Er. Kaizad Engineer for their service to our community during this time. Thanks is also extended to Benifer Irani for her continued enthusiasm and fervour in organising the Muktad prayers every year, in addition to numerous other community events.
