The Tata Founder’s Day was celebrated with great pomp and enthusiasm in Navsari, on the eve of 3rd March, 2024, marking the 185th birth anniversary of world’s greatest philanthropist – Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata. The function was held at Navsari’s Servai Party Plot, organised by the Parsi Cultural Division of S B Garda College Trust, Navsari, led by Mr. Dara Deboo; and INTACH – Navsari Chapter. The event invited all the former as well as current employees of the TATA Group, currently in Navsari.
The highlight of the function was the screening of an animated film (produced by Tata Steel Corporate Communications) on Sir J N Tata’s life. This was followed by a presentation by Tata Strive Skillset NGO, which also has a training center in Navsari, in addition to numerous other Indian cities.
“The NGO is known for its commendable charitable work – in line with the humility of the TATA Group which never flaunts its philanthropic endeavours, as a thumb rule. It has been the trademark legacy of Sir J N Tata, which has been perpetuated with equal dignity and passion by the successors,” says Ruzbeh Umrigar, Co-convenor of the INTACH Navsari Chapter.
Another example of Tata’s subtle charity work would include the guiding light and core funding for the Prince of Wales Museum (now known as the Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sanghralay) in Mumbai. The Tata Group has been an inspiration to not just the nation, but have also proven to be a game-changer worldwide in setting the precedent for their humanitarian works which also reflect in the way they treat all employess, as is evident from their HR policies, since the 1860s. These include introducing the Public Provident Fund, incentives, bonus and many Human Resource endeavours, positively effecting the work-life of employees, which was soon appreciated and emulated by the West – following the Indian example put forth by TATA’s philosophy.
A photo-session of the retired as well as current Tata Employees was then held, followed by an interactive session between the current and erstwhile guards of TATA Navsari.
Here’s to the trendsetting legend – Sir J N Tata, Father of the Indian Industry! May his legacy and philosophy continue to set the precedent across the world.
